Skin question

Here's a question about skin issues and chiari. I've noticed (and others have noticed) that my chest area gets bright red! Sometimes my shoulders. People have asked me if I've gone tanning because I'm so red on my neck/chest. I've always had flushing of my face, but this neck thing is fairly new. It's not a big deal, just new and wondering if anyone else gets reddeing of the skin. Thank you!

I also get flushing of my neck and chest. I think mine may be caused by anxiety though. It happens when I'm nervous or having a conversation with a stranger. Although it does come out of nowhere sometimes too and my hubby will say "what's the matter? You are all broke out" And there won't be a reason.....
I will feel my ears start getting hot and my chest and neck will break out into splotches. It is very embarrassing and I haven't been able to find anything that helps or prevents it. I read that taking antacids like tums will help but I didn't see much of a result.

I think what you are describing is completely different then what I get but I just thought I would add mine since it was similar :)

Hi Niki....a CSF blockage can lead to a syrinx forming, but is not an indication u have one...I had blockage , but no syrinx.

The surgery is to allow flow and lessen the possibility of one forming.

That is the main reason to have surgery....open the flow, if we feel better, that to me is a perk....but we all pray for that.

No worries...I went a full 15 months from dx to surgery...so I know  about waiting...plus, I went to drs for 40 yrs trying to find what was going on...u have to keep pushing and do not let the set backs get u down : )

Thank you Selma

I tried prying today and all they tell me is that what I already mentioned and that from viewing mri of brain and cine they have requested contrast mri, do you think that this is because it could be more swollen width ways rather than length ways,  I hear all the time that this can be more problamatic.  and cause csf blockage but if u have csf blockage does this mean you have syrinx too????

Hey never though two weeks would feel like two years but today it really does, well they ringing me again tomorrow so will try and pry some more.

I want to ask for full lumbar mri as my pain is lower back legs and between shoulders.

Thanks again Selma you are a rock to so many of us.

Hugs

Hi...my cycles were every 19 to 22 days....and I went into menopause early....36-done by 40....and I found out in the last 2 yrs it was the Hashimoto's that caused the hormonal changes...and if it would have been caught early I would not have gone thru it then.....but my drs kept saying normal thyroid bcuz they only did the TSH and not the Free T3 and Free T4 and TPO antibodies like they needed to...my saving grace was I had a drop attack( I know, not too good of a saving grace there but, ) and they thought I may have a blockage to an artery and they did Ultra sounds on my carotid arteries and found the nodules on my thyroid...

Do check it all out again if u have to...and I do understand ur frustration with the hospital and losing ur appointment...but, if they did it, they did it for a more urgent reason...pry if u need it, they do it for u too!

Hang in there...u r closer to knowing all ur answers than u think : )

Thanks selma,

Its hit and miss with the itching the more I touch it then it will itch!

Had my cine mri on 29th September and still awaiting results regarding syrinx, but they have called me today to cancel my nl apt this Monday, as they STILL have not fitted me in for mri with contrast, so not sure about syrinx yet, but they did confirm cerebal ectopia and mentioned some other stuff about fornam magnum  (excuse spellings).

Im devastated as was all ready for my dianosis and so on and so forth,  looks now as if I am going to have to wait until end of November or beginning December.  Im ready to give up, i have had enough, hav work on my back, and just want to scream from the highest mountain.

One of my symptoms is burning in neck and head area, it just flushes from nowhere and im running outside trying to strip off, guess it could be menopause but im 38 and have regular cycles every 22-26 days and have been this way all my life.

The mystery deepens!!!!!

Take care

Thanks for your comments. I was checked for lupus last year because my grandmother had it. Negative. I've had rheumatoid factors checked. Normal. Thyroid checked. Normal. The chest really isn't associated with the heat as much as the face is. It's just red like a sun burn. No bumps or anything.

I haven't been checked for syrinx yet, Selma. Tomorrow's the meeting with the new NL, hopefully she recommends a thorough MRI and looks at all these things, but I will be letting you know it goes tomorrow!

Hi...does it itch?

ask about Pityriasis rosea...it is not contagious, itches and swells like a bite and can take a few days to months to go away.

Keep me posted

PS- the other condition that appears to include red hot skin is a syrinx...did u get checked for this?

Hi...not sure if u do have a hormonal issue or if u have a related condition that may be causing it...as Lizzy mentioned many of us do get told we may have lupus ...and it is one auto immune issue we could get as we r prone to these issues more so than ur average person...
Do ask for testing for related issues to rule them out.''Keep a journal as to when they appear...how long they last...what u drank and ate b4, and what activities u may have participated in...it may help narrow it all down.

Keep us posted as to what u find out

when i had that happen, it was called hot flashes and was the start of menopause!  do you get hot with it or just the flushing?  i still get the flushing from time to time even without the hot flashes though...also, when in the sun, i get what is refered to as lacing.  that was one of the reasons one of my dr.s kept insisting i had lupus.  but i don't. i have ra.  which, by the way, seems to be in remission since my surgery!  (so far..)  i believe this to be a side effect of our brain stem having been compressed for so many years.
