Thank you, I am headed to cleveland clinic on June 28th. My neurologist said to me today that chiari is totally unrelated to my vision issues, which I don't believe him.I have been tested for lupus, ms etc. (all negative of course). I have seen an eye specialist who has checked my pressures, optic nerves etc. I have only had a regular head mri done, it was through the ER when I went in for loss of balance, pressure in the back of the head and my vision issues.
That's when I was referred to neuro and eye spec, they are going back and forth and both are saying they don't know what the problem is but that it is unrelated to my mild chiari. That's when I asked for the referral to cleveland. I am seeing a neuro/opth first because the referral was for visual disturbances. But once I see them I will push for one of the Chiari specialist, they have several.
Thanks for confirming my suspicions!!
Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.
Yes indeed, the floaters and the peripheral vision issues r related to chiari.....in fact post op the peripheral vision has gotten better, I still get the floaters...I still have issues with depth perception especially at night.
Have u had a CINE MRI to check ur CSF flow?
Have they ruled out related conditions?....There r a few Drs in Ohio that should be able to help u, but u may need to travel some to get to them...a true chiari specialist is who u want to see.
U may want to see an eye Dr that can test the optic nerves and the pressure of them for u...
MRI's of the cervical , thoracic, and lumbar r important to rule out a syrinx, tethered cord and disk issues.....
In looking at the MRI's ur Dr should be looking at overcrowding and if there is nething else that could cause the issues u r having...many run tests for lupus, lymes, MS...to rule them out as symptoms for these r similar to chiari symptoms.
