vision issues

I have had floaters in my right eye everyday for almost 3 months, and I have also lost 58% of my peripheral vision. I am extremely light sensitive and I also occasionally have pressure in the back of my head/neck and around to my right ear. I ended up in the E.R two months ago because the pressure was really bad and I was off balance. They did an MRI and referred me to a neurologist who says that I have very mild Chiari and that it would NOT cause my type of vision issues, and ordered physical therapy to help with my neck pain.I have had every test ran under the sun to figure out my vision problems and all of the test are normal. I am beginning to think it is the Chiari after all, have any of you had vision issues like this and what do you suggest?

Thank you, I am headed to cleveland clinic on June 28th. My neurologist said to me today that chiari is totally unrelated to my vision issues, which I don't believe him.I have been tested for lupus, ms etc. (all negative of course). I have seen an eye specialist who has checked my pressures, optic nerves etc. I have only had a regular head mri done, it was through the ER when I went in for loss of balance, pressure in the back of the head and my vision issues.

That's when I was referred to neuro and eye spec, they are going back and forth and both are saying they don't know what the problem is but that it is unrelated to my mild chiari. That's when I asked for the referral to cleveland. I am seeing a neuro/opth first because the referral was for visual disturbances. But once I see them I will push for one of the Chiari specialist, they have several.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions!!

Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.

Yes indeed, the floaters and the  peripheral vision issues r related to chiari.....in fact post op the peripheral vision has gotten better, I still get the floaters...I still have issues with depth perception especially at night.

Have u had a CINE MRI to check ur CSF flow?

Have they ruled out related conditions?....There r a few Drs in Ohio that should be able to help u, but u may need to travel some to get to them...a true chiari specialist is who u want to see.

U may want to see an eye Dr that can test the optic nerves and the pressure of them for u...

MRI's of the cervical , thoracic, and lumbar r important to rule out a syrinx, tethered cord and disk issues.....

In looking at the MRI's ur Dr should be looking at overcrowding and if there is nething else that could cause the issues u r having...many run tests for lupus, lymes, MS...to rule them out as symptoms for these r similar to chiari symptoms.
