Does surgery help?

I seen a neuro surgeon today and he said to try other things before jumping into surgery.  He said he has had patients who have the surgery and it helps and some there is no difference. Hes sending me to physical therapy has anyone been to therapy if so was there any improvement?

Thanks,  no hes not a specialist he is a neoro surgeon. I went to the er about 3 weeks ago because I got to work and all the sudden my right arm got extremely tight and didnt go away for about 2hrs. Ive been having my symptoms since may some days arent so bad and sometimes they are horrible.  I have a 9month old and a 3year old and when I get off work I have no energy left, one day I couldn't button my sons pajamas because my fingers were like cramped up.Most mornings when I get out of bed my whole body is stiff and aches.my mother and sisters, aunts, grandma and cousins have fibromialga I dont think I have it but some symptoms are similar . I'm supposed to schedule my PT but won't be able to go until next month, I own a daycare and its really hard to get away, its just me and one other person. Im lifting babies all day so sure doesn't help my pain. Just wish it would all go away. ; (

Hi Kesshia,

Before my surgery in July, I tried PT. However, the therapist was a bit on the rough side. Eventually, I got used to her manner; however, I really did not notice any pain relief. See all the questions and suggestions that Selma gives you in the post above. I wish you well.

Hi and   welcome to  the Chiari  forum.

I agree with the Dr....but I  have  to ask.....what  testing did  that  Dr do?
It really depends  on what symptoms you have and what other  related conditions....

Many Chiari specialists will try PT  and  a few other things b4 surgery is considered.,surgery  is  not a cure...but a means to restore CSF flow  and  slow  progression.

Is this Dr  a Chiari specialist?

Many  times  PT will  not help...but it can help  the Dr convince the  INS  company too  approve  more  testing and  or  surgery if you  have a CSF  obstruction,...
