I just had someone tell me today that there is no way my symptoms can be all that bad because I look like I'm fine....GRRR!!!!!!!!!   So if I were horribly disfigured that would be better then?!

I actually have a really fun one...
I had just got done explaining to my friend about CM.. and she looked as if she was absorbing it... then she looks at me... and said tentitively "soo.... basically.. you have brain sag... do you want me to get you a wonderbra for that?"
I about peed my pants I was laughing so hard..
Having friends like that is helping me adjust to all this-being newly diagnosed and all..
It's been so much of a running joke of sorts that I actually have posed for pics with a leopard print bra on my head! =]

That is y this forum is so great!!...We can talk to other's who understand...how we feel HA wise...frustration wise with the medical proffession,.....and with rude comments made by loved ones.

I am sorry ur friend doesn't have a clue......have her look at The Chiari Institute's web site to get a better understanding....if she still doesn't get it, then she is sheltering herself...too scared to listen .....or too thick...if u know what I mean.

My best friend told me the other day that I need to just "get over" my headaches.  Needless to say, we aren't speaking....I guess I thought she understood ACM, but OBVIOUSLY not.  

I've had several people ask why I just don't take an Advil or a Tylenol for my headaches...

Yeah I can't say how many times I've had to say "welcome to my life"
however I've also had several people say that they've had a headache recently and don't know how I made it so long putting off surgery

But my favorite was when I had to tell my softball coach and its not so much what he said but what he didn't say.  So I got done with my little speech and he says "ok" all calm and cool like I just told him that I was done putting the equipment away.  I was stunned because he's not the kind of guy to not have an opinion or comment about anything.

i was out to lunch with my dad today and he was telling me about this "AWFUL!! Headache!!!!" he had Monday night.

I told him "Welcome to my life!"

He did not like that very much!

Yeah, I think it's funny when people try to top "sick" stories. But I have to say my neighbor beat me - right after my brain surgery I was out on my porch and my neighbor came out. We started talking and I told him "I just had brain surgery."

He said, "My wife just died last night."

He won.

I just love people that say I get headaches too.....

Yeah...it's the same thing.......I am never sure if they r trying to make more of their headaches or less of mine....it is usually the latter that I feel.....

The most recent comment after my diagnosis that threw me actually came from my MOM of all people. I know she was just trying to cheer me up, but this comment was made after the neurologist made it clear that he was not going to sign my paperwork so I could go back to my job....(the end of the world for me).......

"At least you know your not dying of a brain tumor or something bad like that!"

It was all I could do not to cry about my job, now I was floored....I felt like "this is WORSE than a brain tumor!" I have no options....now thanks to everyone here...I know there is at least some options. :-)   Now I giggle at that comment...she was right....brain tumors are really alot worse than a chiari malformation!
