How much weight does a "nationally ranked hospital" carry?

In search for a pediatric neurosurgeon for my daughter, I've been researching both individual Pedi NS, as well as hospitals as a whole. My concern is that I'm seeing great reviews about an individual, but their hospital doesn't even rank in the top 10. For example, I've read great things (and have peace about it) of Dr Frim (IL) and Dr Lazareff (CA) but neither of their hospitals rank high. The Boston Children's Hospital ranks #1, but I can't find much about the individual surgeons there. Also Duke doesn't even rank, and I expected them to. Can anyone shed any light?  My 7 mos old daughter has a sever malformation, along with hydrocephalus. I was told to not delay seeing a specialist. I want to find her the very best...

Hello! Not sure where you're located but I participated in an online Chiari webinar last week with Dr. Stephen Fletcher at Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, Texas. He seemed like a very caring and knowledgeable doctor. The ones you've already listed are fantastic options, though, from everything I've read.

  Hi...well u can not look at the hospital u need to look at the surgeon...as there are not that many that treat Chiari, then u need to find one that treat kids...they all do not...

Dr Frim in Chicago is well known for treating Children with Chiari....and Dr Henderson in MD, and TCI in NY.....I am sure there are others these are these are the  names that come to mind. Do use our list of Drs to research Drs...we do not have them listed as pediatric at this point....I do have a name in FL that treat children....Dr Eric Trumble
