what about after surgery

OK so I watched the video of the decompression surgery when I was first diagnosed. Scared myself into avoiding my Dr so I didn't risk being told I need the surgery . We'll. If I thought that was stupid , watching a utube video of this chics experience after the surgery and found that even more frightening than the actual surgery . What is really to be expected as for the recovery from surgery. This girl went back to e.r several times just in the months after her surgery for every possible complication . Is it really that rough of a recovery. .

Hi...as with anything those that are not happy make the most noise....but we have to ask, why did they have that outcome.....

- was the Dr a true Chiari specialist?
- were ALL related conditions ruled out?
-did they over do it post op rushing to get back to "normal"  lifestyle?

There are many reasons a recovery could go bad and there are just as many if not more of us that have had a positive recovery....in May I will be 6 yrs post op and with each yr that passes I have noticed ore benefits as a result of my surgery....I do not regret and if  faced with doing it again, I would....no doubts.

I agree with the above poster, those that have had success tend to leave to live their lives,,those that have not continue to post seeking help and support....

This is why I am always saying rule out ALL related conditions as they can affect recovery....not everyone wants to look for something in addition to Chiari....but when those that have issues come back, they do so and let us know this or that was also found after the issues they encountered post op.

Educate yourself, and research your Dr are the top 2 things to do b4 you even consider surgery....and b4 you ignore the possibility of needing surgery know how it may continue to affect you and your over all health.

Hi. I don't know about recovery for everyone, but I think recovery is "rough" for most. But, the statistics show that a wide majority think it was worth it.

Most of the people that frequent these support forums are people who are still having difficulties for one reason or another. There are 1000's more who are not on these websites because they feel better, and have no need for the extra support.

I wish more success stories would post follow-ups over the years. I am need of that kind of encouragement to as I am facing surgery too.
