My last head mri had me have the longest dizzy spell to date because I was lying flat and couldn't move my neck. :( I let them put me in there but I hated it. :( Next time I'm asking for sedation. The open mri didn't do a thing for me when it came to numbness because I was still swished. My head was the only thing out.
Yes, I have the same issues with laying flat. It brings on my vertigo/dizziness. I've been dealing with this since I was very young long before I new it was chiari causing it! So I sleep on a lot of pillows and usually on my side. I can't even "roll over" from side to side while laying down. I have to literally sit up, shift, and lay down again. It sounds wierd but I don't even think about it after all of these years.
One of the worst things for me is going to the dentist. Unfortunately I have been avoiding them for a long time not because I'm afraid of the dentist but I'm so anxious about that stupid chair! LOL. I actually had to leave an appointment once before I even opened my mouth because the chair was just leaned back just a little bit but I was getting vertigo so bad. Of course the dentist thought I was nuts and said we can try again when I'm not so "freaked out". I wasn't freaked out, doc- your room was swaying and moving and I didn't want to have an episode and barf in your office :) Oh,someday maybe people will understand what we chiarians go through!
The MRIs were a challenge, too. I asked to be sedated and thank God I made it through them ok.
Those with Chiari should avoid laying on ur stomach as it places ur head in an odd position and can trigger more pain and issues as well as cause a blockage of CSF flow.....
Laying flat on ur back, if rolling from ur stomach, could be bcuz u tried to lay on ur stomach that u feel that way...but many of us can not lay flat either...I do not like it....even post op almost 3 yrs.
I was told to lay on my side, on my left for GERD issues and just on my side for chiari....
