Odd & Maybe Dumb Question....but,

Dear Chiari Group,

I'm just wondering if any of you have ever noticed that when you were a kid and you laid on your stomach and looked up at the television to watch a show you would end up with an excruciating headache?

I ask this because, of course it use to always happen to me, but my siblings never had any problems, nor did any of my friends.

Like I mentioned in the "title of my question", this is most likely a very dumb question, but I am very curious to know if anyone else has experienced this situation.

Dear Group,

Thank you so very much for your responses.  I hope I didn't leave anyone out of my To: line.  It really is quite a relief to be able to ask questions that, as one or two of you said you would feel silly asking a dr., and even if you did ask they would negate it as having nothing at all to do with your health.

I will be checking on this board more and more.  I had no idea about what this condition was, nor what myriad of symptoms it can have.

I also will be reading everything I can get my hands on about this condition because, as one or two of you also said, once you realize it's not just you, that there may be an actual medical cause to it, then there are all these other things that are happening to your body that make you go "Oh, so that's what that is".

So, again, thank you all so very much because it's good not to feel like you are some freak and all alone with certain situations with you body.

Hello Hello :)  My favorite thing about finding the people on this board is how wonderful and friendly everyone is!!!  There is never a question treated as stupid!!  For most of us we have had MANY doctors treat our questions as stupid and crazy so it is such a relief to come here and have other people say "yes, I have that too."

I too have had the neck pain and straining pain for a long time but it used to be so rare that I just assumed that everyone must have this happen.  The big thing for me was always going tubing in the summertime, having my neck bent all day seemed to hurt me so much more than everyone else and cause bad headaches, sometimes for days!!  The BM issue was there too but like Selma says, it is just a strange question to ask a Dr.  I knew something was wrong when these pains and headaches started to happen all the time from little or nothing!!  It is so nice that so many things are explained when you finally know what is wrong!  

Keep asking your questions, it is a wonderful thing to be able to ask all those things you have been thinking!! I am so happy for all the answers that I have received since I started to post here!!!  It is really helpful.

Hi and welcome to the group! Yes i have had that problem my whole life! And like Carolyn said you will find other things (now that you know you have chiari) that will make you go "Oh, thats why i cant do that or thats why that hurts"

Not a dumb question at all...when I would do that as a kid and as an adult I would always feel like I would pass out and my ears would plug so I just wouldn't do it...
I would be at the gym and I would have to avoid doing those kind of stretches, I didn't know why but I thought it was just me! After being diagnosed, it just made sense! You will find that many, many things that you never thought twice about will now fall under the chiari category!

Yes I did have that issue as well as lying on ur side and propping ur head up on ur elbow...same effect.

Not a dumb question at all...bcuz at the time u had no idea that others didn't feel like that and didn't know to ask.Many of us get the HA's with straining...like when making a BM...and again who thinks to ask...do u get sharp head pains when u poo?....u just assume everyone has it and u go on.....

I am happy to welcome u to our little family here, but sorry for the reson u had to seek us out.
