Moving neck after surgery.

Before I had the decompression surgery, I would crack my neck quite often. It would feel stiff and I would just have the feeling that it needed to be cracked. My surgery was about 4 weeks ago and I'm working on moving my neck a little more each day. At my 3 week follow-up I told my Dr. I was afraid to move my neck, but he said it was important to try and my neck would tell me I would feel when enough was enough. So now comes my question that I feel so silly to ask: can I crack my neck? If felt good when I started to move my neck, put the past few days it just feels like it needs to be cracked. I can move it to a certain point, and I don't get pain, just a "needs to be cracked feeling." Should I try or just leave it alone?

Hi,  I had my son at a sports doctor once for a concussion, (my son also likes to crack his neck) and the doctor said it is not good for you and to try not to ever do it.  I'm sorry that I can't remember the exact reason why, but it, never the less, was good advice from a doctor.

Hi...I can not say I can say I know how u feel as since being post op I do not get the need to crack my neck.....and like the others do not feel it wise, safe....etc....

Like CW I too have disk issues that cracking my neck might make worse...have u looked into the possibility that u may have something like that as well?

I can relate to the feeling. Frankly, I don't have an answer for you. I've tryed to avoid cracking my neck since the surgery though. Many of us already have DD problems going on in the cervical area already so it would seem that perhaps this would not be condusive to good healing.

We are, at least I was, advised against allowing a Chiropractor to touch my neck again. This would make it seem that perhaps cracking isn't a good thing.

Granted, I am only a couple days post-op, but OMG I can't imagine cracking my neck!
