My niece just had the surgery

Hi. My niece just had the surgery on Wednesday and she is experiencing severe headaches and nausea/vomiting. She actually had a CT scan today. I haven't spoken to her mother for the results. She is 13 years old. Anyone have any thoughts on this? It seems that all of the posts that I have read about post op issues are not good. Most ppl seem to be worse after the surgery.

I'm sorry that your niece is not feeling well.  It is still very, very early in her recovery, and it can be a bumpy road.
Children usually bounce back better than adults.

I ate a LOT of frozen fruit pops!

Hi ...sorry CSF is the cerebral spinal fluid...with this surgery many times a leak can occur at the point they placed a patch...sometimes the patch fails, the patch is rejected by the patience's body, or they just needed a few more stitches....

Thank you so much for your response. I feel better already. She had her surgery in Birmingham Alabama at Childrens's Hospital.

I want to welcome you and to say I'm sorry your neice is having this problem after surgery, but also for me I was really really sick after surgery and it was the med's they had me on, so have you sister ask about having this changed.  Hope she is feeling better soon.  Your in our prayers.

Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.

Many times this issue could be due to a reaction to the meds she is on....I had that and once they changed my meds I was fine.

The only other issue it could be is a CSF leak...since they did a CT it should indicate if there is an issue like this.

Not most are worse post op with this surgery, it is just those are the ones that post more ....we have had many successful surgical members here so, it is not the surgery that makes them worse, it is usually an underlying issue not found b4 surgery .....

May we ask where she had her surgery?

Sending prayers for ur niece that she rebounds and feels better soon <3
