Hi...actually there are a few other types of patches used for this surgery...
As kwalker mentioned....synthetic which many Drs opt to use...but for those with EDS the best option is own own tissue harvested either from the scalp or thigh.
Other possible forms are cadaver tissue...or bovine . again for those with EDS own own tissue is best as it is less likely for us to reject our own tissue as we might with foreign matter.
When we reject the patch, it can fail and leak....causing some very nasty HA's and other symptoms including vomiting and nausea. We can also develop an infection so, it is important your Dr keeps a close eye on it and you report any and ALL symptoms you develop asap.

Hello and welcome, basically there are two types of dura patches, one that is synthetic and one that is manufactured out of your own scalp I believe. you need to rule out any related conditions as the synthetic one might cause additional problems if you have related conditions that could prevent proper healing.
