a few more questions

Does anyone know, if a spinal MRI shows no "pockets" of spinal fluid does that mean surgery isn't needed at that time or surgery is usually done if you are symptomatic regardless?

I also didnt have a syrinx, but I had surgery. One thing one of my doctors said was that if the symptoms are interfering with my life and preventing me from living fully was that it could help me live a better quality, and fuller life. Since it was, it was recommended that I have it, they also that that if I did have a syrinx then they would said "you are having this surgery, as much as I can say that"

Hi, I also did not have a syrinx but had significant csf blockage. My old ns only did a bony decompression and shaved off c1. Now because he didnt do the complete surgery, im most likely headed for another with a cchiari specialist.

Agreed, I also did not have a syrinx, but I did have CSF flow that was obstructed, which is the beginnings for a syrinx to form, so to avoid that, and to help with the symptoms I had, I also had surgery.

Did u have a CINE MRI?

Hi. Just because there is not a synrix doesnt mean that surgery is not an option. I do not have a synrix....yet surgery is necessary for me because mine is what the DR called progressive. The option for surgery is so individually based on so many things that it really is just as different as each case of chiari. I am sorry that I don;t have a better answer for you. Many factors play into the decision of surgery....your symptoms....whether or you have aCSF blockage, is normally the biggest reason, and many many other related  conditions and reasons. Best wishes to you.
