Newly Diagnosed

Is it usually the case that you start having a lot the symptoms that go along with Chiari somewhat all at once?  By that I mean within a year or so.

I've blamed many of my symptoms on some of my other diseases/diagnosis but now that I have been diagnosed with CM many of the symptoms are certainly relatable.

Also, other than surgery do any of you see a Neurologist for meds to manage the symptoms?

Sorry I have so many different questions, this is a new one for me :)

Thank you so much!

I have two more apt.s set up with two of the big Boston hospitals...so I feel like I'll be getting the best care.  I'll get a referral to a NL from one of the NS.

I already have a Pain Management  Clinic that I go to and I found out that one of the Dr.'s on staff is a Neurosurgeon, that I have that advantage!

I'll let you know how my next apt goes on Friday.

Thanks so much,
Karen

It was definitely the case with me..things snowballed really quickly..but then when I started to look at things in my past I realized that there had been warning signs a long time ago. Things that had been put down to anxiety or stress by my drs...some of them had started 20 years ago!! So it is really hard to say.

Honestly, my NL was no good as far as dx the Chiari...I will be seeing one for a followup to my surgery.  NL are good for the testing part BUT if you need something done, it is better to see a NS.

Don't worry...when I was dx I had soo many questions..so ask away!

Hi Karen...everyone is different...it is highly possible that u had chiari symptoms ur whole life, but they may have been attributed to other issues....

Some will have a fall or be  involved in  a MVA that could trigger an on-slot of symptoms......

Depending on what triggers ur symptoms it is possible to appear to come on all at once.

Many drs mis dx as well...and symptoms r many times been blamed on other conditions until we get the chiari dx, then we can connect all the dots.

Yes, a NL would be the one to give u meds for pain, and it is possible to be sent to a PM dr for that as well.

No worries, feel free to ask questions...in fact u can continue to post them all on one thread so all the info is together....we chiarians tend to forget...so it can be helpful for a new person to add to one thread instead of starting a few : )

Glad to have u join us, sorry for the reasons tho
