Post surgical normal, our noe normal?

I know its prob been posted but since I'm in extreme pain due to decompression, I can't and don't have timw to look through previous posts so I'd like some input please.

Had surgery 8/9/11 and have been in lots of pain since but not any severely severe headaches until tonight its is a pounding throbbing stabbing  one of the worst... Is that normal in recovery? When do I consider things normal from the pain from surgery and then things thats are serious like csf leak or icp?

I am so sorry you are so miserable.  For me I never had bad headaches just surgical pain but nothing like you are describing.I would definetly let your Dr know since that doesn't sound good.  Praying for you,

Hi...zygy gave good info....and it may just be ur threshold for pain, what u can deal with and it could just be ur surgical pain.....and most of the meds wearing off.

PTC would be positional head pressure.....a CSF leak would also get worse with a change in position....and the worse HA u ever had.

If u have something new, or feels worse than b4 surgery deff call ur dr.

The other thing is, what r u doing daily?

U should be resting, some walking and some exercises for ur neck.

Keep a journal...what u did during the day, and how u felt so u can see if there is a relation to it...or if something else may be going on.

   Praying u feel better soon : )

Sorry to hear you are in so much pain and have the terrible headache.  I think each story is so different so I would call your NS if your headache does not go away or gets worse.  Have you tried taking anything for it?  If you are concerned, it does not take much to call the NS on call and have a little chat!  I think headaches seem pretty normal along with nausea and pain but if they are extreme I would ask someone. My massive headache after the second surgery was the chemical meningitis, about three months after my first surgery I had a HUGE headache and I am assuming that was when I got my leak because things went downhill from there.  Now, after my third surgery I have a headache every single morning and evening and have for about five weeks now.  They are telling me it is the process and by trial and error I have found some things that help... might be caffeine for you, tylenol, ibuprofin, laying down, drinking more fluids, pain meds even to get a break, they seem to make my headaches worse though when they wear off so good luck if you try that :)  I hope you feel better soon, it can be a long irritating recovery! Sending you hugs and hopefully some headache healing thoughts!! :)  take care- zygy
