To all zipperheads

Please let me know if any of you were addicted to pain meds. My daughter was so addicted that
they had no immediate effect on her .Which led to a  delayed reaction .She  was overdosed in the recovery room.
Later in ICU the nurse allowed it to happen again. It is not a sight that you would want to remember.I will always be
haunted with the dead ,blank look in her eyes and the no response. She is in her third week of recovery and
still taking vicoden etc etc every four hours. She is mean and has fits of rage. Can any one help me? Donna

Hi Donna,
I too am sorry you have this added burden on what is already a tough journey and I hope things improve for you soon.
Some pain meds as well as working on pain also cause a feel god feeling or buzz. Because of this they can become habit forming. Because they are prescribed by a doctor people think they are safe, far from it. Selma correctly raised  the question about strong pain meds pre opp, this is an important question because dependency to the extent where you have the reaction your DD had would take some time to reach(months).
The fact she overdosed in recovery and again in ICU needs to be looked at objectively by both you and her doctors to rule out any other issues but to me(recovering addict) it sounds like an issue with  tolerance witch can be caused by prolonged use of most pain meds
I sense and understand your anger but you need for your DD sake and your own to be calm and objective.

Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.

I am so sorry u and ur DD are going thru this.

I can see where it would be easy to want these meds, bcuz for the first time u feel 100% better....it is just the meds tho.

May I ask was she on strong pain meds prior to surgery? I don't quite understand how she overdosed in recovery.
In ICU  I remember I had a button, that I held onto, but since I was getting sick from the morphine I didn't want to press the button.

It sounds like u need to get her in a facility at this point.....
May I also ask what area u r in?
