I have read lots of comments here about swollen tongue, too much saliva, bad taste in mouth, etc.
I never had much taste sensation and my gag reflex came & went.  Leading up to surgery, peristalsis (the muscle movement in your esophagus) wasn't working, so there was food stuck there until gravity finally moved it down.

Chew carefully &, I hope you feel better.

I hope you were able to eat something.
I have 2 Rxs & 2 OTC treatments for nausea, and I found that eating something salty and/or chewing peppermint gum is as effective as anything.
You could try peppermint tea or diluted ginger ale too.

I literally went through bags of potato chips & craved mashed potatoes.
I eat lots of miso soup now.
