Today is the 1 year anniversary of my decompression surgery.
I still have some problems - dizziness, headaches, numbness in my right hand, etc. But I do feel better than I did a year ago yesterday :D. My problems are probably permanant, but I'm glad I did it. I believe that had I not had it, I would be much worse off, if still here at all.
To any of you that are unsure if you should have this operation, let me offer some advice: Have the surgery before any irreversable damage is done. I didn't really have much of a choice - I found out I had Chiari after it had grown so large that the damage was already done. My herniation was discovered at 20mm and i already had a syrinx. From first hearing the words "Chiari" and "Syringomyelia" to undergoing the operation was 3 weeks for me. I suppose that was a good thing. It didn't really give me any time to stress over it.
I'm just glad to still be here! And I'm glad to have found this forum and you all. I've been fortunate to meet a couple of you in person and I hope to meet more.
Good luck to all of you and I hope everyone is having a pain-free day.
