tenderness on head post-op?

overall i've been feeling very good so i guess i overlooked it, but there is a spot on my head that is tender. not soft tender, but when i touch it or my hair gets tugged (ie when i'm brushing over that area), there's tenderness and so i have to make sure i'm gentle around that area. this was not apparent immediately post-op and started developing a few days after, so i chalked it up to the "nerves coming back" because parts of my scalp were still basically numb. the right side of my head is completely fine.

this tenderness i speak of is not exactly located where the incision is.. it's to the left and above it, near the crown of the head. but the left side of the incision is a bit more tender compared to the right side, which feels completely normal... so i'm thinking it just is still healing?

anyone else have/had this post-op?

Hi...I also had a tender spot and I agree the  halo that holds our heads still  is in part to blame and  I also had a drain and that was where mine was....I don't know if u had one but that can also be  a reason for a tender area.

And as the drugs that were used for surgery leave ur body....u may feel more aches and pains then directly post op...this is normal...

well, I experienced this post op when I had my 3rd surgery in dec 2010. It has lessened, but is still there. It comes and goes, and I have 3 different hair brushes that i use depending on how it feels. Sometimes, its bad I use my hands. But overall, I've learned to live with it just like all the other symtpoms I have.

aw, sad to hear that the pain has not gone away yet! it's not super painful but sure is annoying. i can't comb my fingers through my hair around that area without it hurting... not cool! i'll have to have my dh check to see if that area is red. i'm hoping that the pain goes away with time... hoping yours gets better too. have you asked your dr about this, especially since it's been almost a year since your surgery?

ljturner, i'm not sure if it was caused by the device which held my head in place... i might ask my dr though. could be.

Hello there! I canNOT tell you how happy I am to have found your post!!! I thought I was loosing my mind with this pain! I had my surgery last April, and have had the biggest ups & downs since (currently a down). But this head/scalp pain is...well, weird! It hurts on the left side of my incision site, is reddish sometimes, and does hurt even when my hair moves in that area! Have you found anything that's helped with your situation?
Thanks for sharing, and I hope you are doing well today.
Sincerely - Eyrin

Hi,

I had similar tenderness - it was from the Mayfield device they used to secure the head to the table and keep it stable. Could that be the cause of yours as well?
