need more info on a medication abilify

hi i have a 12 year old son hes been on abiify for quite some time and he all so was taking strtara but he no longer takes stratara but still takes abilify when he first started taking abilify he was taking 5 mg in the mornings and it didnt seem to help and then started 10 mg and that didnt seem to help much then he started 40 mg well i talked to his therapist and we took him off well then he was started to be more hyper silly couldnt keep on task and he got upset at times were he would tear up his paper work took books off the shelves well now hes back on abilify 5 mg three times aday it helps some times not all the time he is more tired dont go play when he is home like he use to things im not use to seeing him as like happy going out to ride his bike to me he is not him self not to what im use to seeing him as i would like to know is abilify all so used to help keep focus and on stay on task cause thats what his therapist told me thats why he takes abilify for my son and i have moved to col from calif he never has had to take meds even though he was silly hyper and has developemental delays but his teacher handled him and new how to get him back on tasks even though it was hard but she new what to do and dealt with him.hear in col he has been in 5 different schools and the second school is were we really had promblems and now his 5 school is still a promblem and his second teacher he has now has changed so much for him and the classmates she is a very hard teacher but stated that my son meds was like warry off tords noon so my sons med doc dicribed a three times a day on abilify but im not for sure if they now what there really doing all i do know its upseting me and my son has no medical dignoses done im starting to now to get them done cause im so fed up with just words out of the mouth with no medical done .please if you can help me bye telling if abilify can help with staying focus and staying on tasks and what abilify is mainly used for thank you.

No, Abilify is not used to treat inattention or distractibility. It is used to help children stay calm, to lessen agitation or angry reactivity. It is also used to treat people who are having disturbed thinking, though it doers not sound like that was the reason it was prescribed for your son. It will be important for him to be in the hands of a child/adolescent psychiatrist. See if you can arrange this (if the doctor you mentioned is not a psychiatrist).

i thank you from the bottom of my heart i will do my best to see that my 12 year old son gets in the right hands my son is going to mhcd no therapist just meds and his med doc was trying to see if my sons prymary phision could take over bye subing the meds well i asked my sons prymary and im blessed with my son physion cause my son primary physion said no dont feel confortable with that i want another apionan from another syciatrics and were in the proses of doing that and even more since i have found out from you as well thank you so much from the bottom of my heart.
