Is Chlamydya cured by Metronidazole and Levaquin

by nickname7, Jul 08, 2009 11:24PM
I have been a victim of our healthcare system. I have tested positive for Chlamydia last December. The result was communicated by my doctor in April this year! She never calls if the test is negative. In this case it was positive and she did not call. Well, after much ordeal to reach her, which I could not, I changed the doctor. This genious doctor assumed I had a PID since the Chlamydia was never treated in December and prescribed Metronidazole and Lavaquin (500-500 each) for two weeks to clear the PID. My symtoms have stopped. I finished of these antibiotics about three weeks ago. Today the simptoms have come back. What does it mean? That Chlamydia came back, right? forgive me, I am quite new to this and don't even know what questions to ask. I have read some posts here and it makes me wonder, with the positive test for Chlamydia, even though it was from December and now it was May, why did not my doctor prescribe something for Chlamydia and gave me antibiotics for PID only?
I am really frustrated. My new doctor told me they (I don't know who 'they' are) lost my test. I retested and now I am waiting to hear the results. I called, explained I have symptoms, the doctor is not returning the call.
What is this? Am I a victim of this system or I just don't k now what to do due to my inexperience dealing with doctors?
Really frustrated and indignant!

Sorry, you have come across incompetent people.  Here are the guidelines issued by the cdc for treatment of PID.

Thanks! The guidelines do say that Metronidazole and Levaquin are among those antibiotics prescribed to patients. However, I do not understand why I am not treated for Chlamydia and am treated for PID. Chlamydia is the source of this problem and they are trying to clear PID, which might not even exist but I doubt. I have already had Chlamydia for a long time, unless it cleared up on its own and I got reinfected again
Why should I be an expert in this and not my doctor? should not doctors do whatever is necessary to do even if I do not ask questions? Honestly, I had no idea what questions to ask. I just got tested and the test was positive. OMG! This is a triumph of stupidity and incompetence. NEvertheless, this healthcare system is considered the best in the world. What a shame!

I think Levaquin is an alternative treatment for chlamydia.  I'm not sure though.  I will check on that.  But you are right, you would think they would try to treat the chlamydia first.
