Chronic hives

bwb
I have had hives for almost three years now. Every antihistimine and stomach pill (that has a histimine blocker) has been tried. The only relief I have gotten was when I went on Cyclosporine for six moths. This is an antirejection drug. I do not want to stay on this, but have been off of it for five months now, and hives are starting to return. Sometimes they are red splotches on my skin, other times they are thick welts, both itch unreal. My eyes, lips and feet swell also. My eyes and lips swell till I look like someone has beat me...Any sugestions???

I started getting  hives about 2 months ago. I get them every single day, sometimes is realy bad and covers almost every part of my body and sometimes it only afects a small part like one arm or one leg. It almost always starts in the evening befor bed and i have been loosing alot of sleep.  The only thing i have found that calms it a little in smearing myself with Calamine lotion.

Hi I  am new to all this but have been suffering for the past 7 months with chronic hives and vasculitis  ..... along with that I was diagnosed with Lupus this past December and I have had a horrible history with my Thyroid and ovarian cysts..... so all the information I have read here has been a relief (that I am not the only one) and also sadness because all of you are suffering for so long.......Is there any hope in sight?  I have been on THe almighty steroids for over 3 years and they don't help I am on doxepin (the side effect is supposed to stop mastcell production -yeah ok) Zyrtec, Pepsid (all the goodies) but to no avail unless I get IV steroids (in a large dose 40mg or more) the hives come back each day. I recently tried the ELIMINATION DIET that did nothing and I ended up in the hospital with a UTI n yeast infection along with Thrush. So any suggestions? My nutritionist says that I REALLY should get off my Thyroid mediation because it could be the key to all my problems but I can't get a MD to work with me. All I wanna do is feel better (and stop itching..........)
Thanks for any info -i have already made a list from the info here that i am taking to my docs on friday

I have had hives for 11 years. Tylenol will get rid of the itchy feeling 42 minutes after you take it so you can go to sleep.

I am glad to find this board and to know that I am not alone. I have been suffering from Hives for 20 years and I have been through the whole routine....allergist, testing, oral steriods and injections, allergy shots, oral meds...EVERYTHING! What I started noticing was when I started to break out which was about a week before my period and during my period. I asked my OBGYN about this and got a crazy look from her while she was telling me that there was no connection between the two. Then in 2010 I got the Mirena IUD and all hives stopped. That means no hives from things I thought I was allergic to all these years. However while on the Mirena I had a 20lb weight gain ( no diet changes and I still exercised )so I decide to take it out....OMG my hives have come back with a furry! So I am pretty sure that my theory is correct about the connection between my hives and my hormones. I was wondering last night as lay scratching myself and not sleeping if a total hysterectomy would cure the hives for good....does anyone happen to know?

Just checking to see if anyone who has hives has been tested for Lupus? Look it up. Any similarities? Not to alarm anyone, but maybe it isn't just hives, there's something else. I am on dy 12 of hives for the first time ever. I get hives, yes, just ot 12 days and going woth. I only ever have had it for one day. Some of you on here sound like there just may be something else going on. Just saying....

I would suggest to all to try taking Moducare. Moducare is a plant sterol that balances the immune system. Google Moducare and learn more about it. I think chronic hives has something to do with the immune system. That's my gut feeling. Also, check all medications you are taking for dyes. Milk thistle is good for cleansing the liver and recommend detoxifying at least twice a year. Either a whole body cleanse or a liver cleanse.  Hives could be a over active immune system. (auto immune disorder)
