what is an alternative lactulose solution
What can I use in place of the lactulose solution? I have liver problems.

How advanced is your cirrhosis? Pre-transplant,when my husband had ESLD he was unable to take the Xifaxin as his feet swelled to where he couldn't even put his shoes on.
He recently learned he has cirrhosis of the new liver. He started have bouts of HE in June. They put him back on lactulose but it wasn't enough to keep him stable. So given his prior history with Xifaxin, they slowly started him on it and he is now taking the recommended dosage of 550 mg twice a day.
It has made a big difference. He has been stable for two weeks straight now.
He is also taking 30 ml of lactulose a day.
Hope you are able to find the right combo to help you remain stable. I know how difficult HE is for you.

Lactulose is THE standard treatment for anyone with cirrhosis and symptoms of hepatic encephalopathy (HE). Some patients in addition also take Rifaximin/Xifaxan (an antibiotic) to Lactulose.
