I use baking soda and water. Works quickly for me. Others told me yellow mustard or pickle juice I have not tried these.
Hey there, the above information is wonderful. When I was having really bad cramps I tried to make sure I was getting sufficient nutrition.
I took calcium, magnesium, zinc and potassium (bananas) to try to help, they did help me
You should check with your doctor first before taking anything.
Hector is right, you should try to treat your HCV.
I rarely get cramps anymore but if I do, I go back to the above regimen and it does help.
Take Care

Hi and welcome.
I assume you are taking about muscle cramping as a symptoms of your cirrhosis? Unfortunately muscle cramping is a common and recurring symptom of more advanced cirrhosis and there is no known treatment that works consistently for most people. Muscle cramping is an issue that many of us cirrhotics had to learn to live with as best we can, often for years, until we are able to either reverse our liver disease or receive a liver transplant and cure our liver disease that way.
Of course your liver doctor should be aware of any changes to you health and symptoms and they in turn should be following up by checking that your electrolyte levels are within norms to assure that there are no other obvious causes for such cramping happening.
Of course the best way to manage any symptoms or complications of cirrhosis is to treat the underlying cause of the liver disease if possible. Your profile says you have hepatitis C. Hepatitis C is a totally curable infection and all people who are infected with the virus should be treated. There is no reason to wait to treat for newer better treatments especially in someone with advanced liver disease. With current treatments most people with cirrhosis ( 94%+) can be cured within 12 weeks. Studies in cirrhotics show that upon being cured most people see a reduction in their cirrhotic symptoms and improvement in many liver related blood levels soon after being treated.
You should talk to your liver doctor about treatment and start treating your hepatitis C as soon as you can. The sooner you treat your hepatitis C the sooner you will see a reversal of your cirrhosis and its symptoms.
Best of luck to you.
Get treated, get cured.
Hector
Are you currently being treated for Hep C?
Yes, the cramping. It's awful and the only thing I know that helps at all is drinking lots of water and slowly stretching out the muscles
I just hate it when it happens in the hands or feet. I try shaking them out and then drink as much water as I possibly can
I wish I could be more helpful but I think your doc may be right. Just comes with the territory
