pain

My husband has had non-alcoholic cirrhosis for approximately (4) years (that we know of).  Lately he has been having a lot of pain in the liver area.  Is this normal?  Should I take him to the doctor?  He says that he always has dull pain but now it has such sharp pains that he is not eating like he used to.

Pain is around the liver is NOT normal in people with cirrhosis.

He should contact his specialist (hepatologist?) ASAP and let the doctor know what is going on. They may ask him to have a exam and perhaps have some testing done to make sure nothing out of the ordinary is occurring. It is always a good idea to err on the side of caution when it comes to the health of someone with cirrhosis. As you may know, people with cirrhosis are more prone to various medical complications that could be very serious if not addressed promptly.

Give that doctor's office a call and find out what they recommend.

Take care.

He keeps up with his Lactulose and has 3-6 movements most days.  He has had pain before but nothing like this.  He is a big man and always wants/eats 3 meals a day no matter what.  This pain has made him not want to eat and stay in bed all day.  He goes to the specialist in Birmingham in May for his 6 months checkup.  I guess I just don't want to overlook anything.

Mine goes thru stages of sharp and dull and has had for years. I have MRIs every 6 months and they have not changed. If I keep up with the bowel program with Lactulose with 3-4 BMs a day I don't have that much trouble; any less, and I've got more discomfort and pain.
