Sure Ralph not trying to have a fight just a discussion sorry if my tone implied that.

Like I said I have seen a lot of posts from just me "does ringing in the ears mean I have cirrhosis", "cause of low platelets" when his platelets were not low, "I started to be obsessive about low  platelet count" I am just going by his comments.

I recognize he is afraid I just think he is looking in the wrong place for help. I do recognize just because you have anxiety does not mean there is nothing wrong with you i.e. the yeast infection he has on his tongue. But that he is mostly looking in the wrong places for help.

I do have sympathy for him but I think a lot of his problems could be helped more by seeing a councelor or at least it is a possibility he could consider looking into.

I will try to be kinder to him going forward but when you are actually diagnosed with cirrhosis for over 7 years as I have it can try your pantience at times.

Sometimes I wonder if he wants to be sick...

Good health to you!

flyinlynn   not trying to pick a fight :)

I had remarkably similar issues recently and was also told to get mental help.  Yes I was anxious and was thinking a week to live at one stage!  But i still believe yes I did have reason to be anxious.  Also the more I look into the science of liver issues, its pretty clear that they are alot even experts cant tell you for sure.  I mean all my tests to date have been text book good health, but that doesnt mean they will be in years to come.  I have read a few cases now where ex drinkers 8-10 years sober develop fatty liver, im starting to think once you have been a heavy drinker your liver maybe forever affected and issues may come later in life if your not careful with your diet.  That said there are also alot of success stories where people never get a liver issue.  The question is which one will I be?  all i can do is get regular bloods and keep and eye on things, i was drinking reasonably heavy but not a daily drinker ever.

Ralph

I absolutly agree he has every righ to post. It is just in previous posts he has said how he has now lost the weight and his liver functions had returned to normal.

Sure maybe he had a scare and having continuing concerns but he has had a lot of tests by his doctors and they have assured him his liver is fine.

My thinking is in general he might be better served by maybe getting some counseling to address his possible anxiety issues as they could be a part of his problems.

Sorry sometimes it is hard to not be weary of those that ask often if a given symptom is cirrhosis when there is nothing in the labs they have posted to indicate cirrhosis and their doctors have told them they do not have it.

Have a great day Ralph

I think, yes he is anxious, but that doesnt mean he shouldnt be.  He has been diagnosed with fatty liver and naturally worried that it will turn into fatty liver liver with inflammation and obviously a damaged liver. If he is experiencing problems he has every reason to post!

Well yeah

but he posts a lot and I think he needs counseling for anxiety more than medical help except the thrush does need to be addressed.

flyinlynn dont be too hard on the guy.  Its hard to rest on a liver issue if you have  (no matter how small) some kind of health issues, everything becomes liver related, lets face it, its a very scary thing to contemplate !

Hi

If I remember correctly you have never been diagnosed with cirrhosis is that correct? You had some fatty liver problems because you used to be overweight but have since slimmed down right?

I see you are also a member of 27 different health forums.

Because the Miconazole is not only effective in the treatment of oral thrush which is a yeast infection in the mouth, but it can also be used to fight off certain other bacteria also, where the Nystatin oral suspension is prescribed for oral thrush exclusively due to the fact that Nystatin has no effect whatsoever as an antibioticl agent against other bacterial infections.

EDIT: What I meant to type was that Miconazole (Daktarin) is more effective in treating a wider variety of other bacteria besides a yeast infection from developing thrush than Nystatin which is limited as an antibiotic to the fungus in yeast infections. And only a few other forms of bacteria which Nystatin has almost no effect on whatsoever as an antibiotic agent against certain forms of other bacteria that Miconazole can be effective with. Sorry for the confusion, I must have been getting really tired yesterday when I originaly typed that. *(]] ;>)~

You mentioned "Daktarin" correct? The active ingredient is Myconazole, and is this prescription in pill form? Both the Daktarin and Nystatin is prescribed for yeast infections like from oral thrush. The choice of prescribing you the Daktarin was made to cover the bases so to speak.

"I have never seen a SINGLE liver patient who complains of bitter taste!" Well, I have to respectfully disagree with your liver professor because thrush is quite common in ESLD patients and is almost guaranteed to happen to post liver transplant patients like myself and I'm living proof the YES doctors can be wrong!

When I first received the gift of life way back in 1997, I was told by many doctors who examined me that I would be most fortunate to make to 5 years post transplant and yet here I am @ 17+ years later. Now I'm not saying that your doctor isn't a good one because that is not what I meant to imply at all. But if some of most reputable hepatologists and liver transplant doctors in the world at the time were incorrect in my assessment then any doctor out here can be also because after all is said and done, they're humans just like the rest of us. btw, did your family doctor take some cultures from your mouth to confirm?

I remember as if it were yesterday the bitter taste I had in my mouth from having thrush, and I have had it more than 5 times if I remember correctly. So, if the yeast infection continues, I would suggest to your family doctor to prescribe you some Nystatin oral suspension. here's a link:

I'll be praying for you.

Henry

A yeast infection on your tongue has zero to do with your liver. There is no need to hope your doctor is right. Your doctor is right.

yes, my family doctor told me it is yeast infection  and what he prescribed was "Daktarin". I am better than before but i have a feeling that it still exists.
I asked by email a liver professor and that is what he told me:

"I have never seen a SINGLE liver patient who complains of bitter taste!Anyway you do NOT have any serious liver problem.""

Hope he is right...

Hello, Me_just34,

Did your doctor tell you that you had what is known as "Thrush?" This is what Livelife777 when referring to a yeast infection...  Btw, what did your Doctor prescribe? Was it "Nycostatin", or "Nystatin" (Generic) Oral Suspension?

"Nystatin" oral is used to treat the following: Thrush, Candida Fungus Infection of Mouth, Skin, Nails or Vagina, Stomach and Intestinal Infection caused by the Fungus Candida. Are one of these conditions what your Doctor diagnosed you as having?

Respectfully,
Henry

like i said

Most commonly this occurs when your papillae become enlarged and bacteria in your mouth produce colored pigments.

Me-just.   When I went to the hospital a few years ago with acute liver distress one of my symptoms was jaundice.  My eyes were yellow as well
as my skin.  I do not believe that you can have a yellow tongue without your eyes being also yellow.
As far as your Bili #s, they typically will not show yellowing of the face and eyes unless they are higher then 2.5 mg.
A bitter taste in my mouth was not an indication at all that I was sick.  When your body gets to the point of being jaundiced you are incredibly sick. I could barely walk into the ER as I felt like I would pass out.
Hope that helps
....Kim

Bile doesn't cause jaundice high bilirubin levels do

Bile is a fluid that is made and released by the liver and stored in the gallbladder.

Bile helps with digestion. It helps enzymes in your body to break down fats into fatty acids, which can be taken into the body by the digestive tract.

Bile contains mostly cholesterol, bile acids (also called bile salts), and bilirubin (a breakdown product of red blood cells). It also contains:

Water
Body salts (potassium and sodium)
Copper and other metals

here is a link about bile reflux

Bile reflux is similar to acid reflux.

http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/bile-reflux/basics/symptoms/con-20025548

Symptoms
By Mayo Clinic Staff
Bile reflux can be difficult to distinguish from acid reflux. The signs and symptoms are similar, and the two conditions may occur at the same time. It isn't clear what role bile plays in reflux conditions.
Bile reflux signs and symptoms include:
Upper abdominal pain that may be severe
Frequent heartburn — a burning sensation in your chest that sometimes spreads to your throat, along with a sour taste in your mouth
Nausea
Vomiting a greenish-yellow fluid (bile)
Occasionally, a cough or hoarseness
Unintended weight loss
When to see a doctor
Make an appointment with your doctor if you frequently experience symptoms of reflux, or if you're losing weight without trying.
If you've been diagnosed with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) but aren't getting adequate relief from your medications, call your doctor. You may need additional treatment for bile reflux.

http://www.mayoclinic.org/symptoms/yellow-tongue/basics/causes/sym-20050595

Causes
By Mayo Clinic Staff

Yellow tongue usually occurs as a result of harmless changes to the tiny projections (papillae) on the surface of your tongue. Most commonly this occurs when your papillae become enlarged and bacteria in your mouth produce colored pigments.

Rarely, yellow tongue may be a sign of jaundice, a yellowing of your eyes and skin that may indicate liver or gallbladder problems.

Note the word RARELY above

Jaundice, also referred to as icterus, is the yellow staining of the skin and sclerae (the whites of the eyes) by abnormally high blood levels of the bile pigment, bilirubin.

How are you bilirubin levels? If normal you don't have jaundice. In my non medical opinion.

Also why do you not as your doctor these questions? They are medical professionals we are a patient support group.

Your doctor is your first and best option for medical questions and diagnosis of symptoms as opposed to an internet support group forum.
