Tidbit on Green Tea

Tidbit on Green Tea

According to a study just completed in Japan, daily intake of green tea helps reduce the risk of periodontal or gum disease. The study looked at nearly 1,000 middle-aged Japanese men who initially underwent periodontal exams. Follow up exams showed that those individuals who consumed the higher levels of green tea had a significant decrease in periodontal or gum disease. Those consuming at least one cup of green tea daily had the best results.

Previous research indicates that green tea catechins inhibit periodontal bacterial growth and also exert an antioxidant effect that inhibits inflammation.

Dr Strand is a naturopathic MD and he sends me weekly newsletters.....this is just one of many interesting newsletters.

It also seems that everyone has jumped ont the bandwagon of adding green tea to things anyway......I personally like it whether mixed with a juice or hot in a cup! :)

Black tea, because it's fermented, has less benefit than green.  Some teas, like, I think, Darjeeling, are in the middle of those two, and white tea is the richest in beneficial nutrients, as it's the least processed and uses, I think, only the tops or something like that.

My son is into tea and used to make us both good tea when he was still living at home.  Unfortunately, he's in Milwaukee now.  I *LOVE* Darjeeling!  Maybe I can get him to move back....

Check out articles about green tea on Dr. Mercola's website.  There is some important information about green tea on his site that you need to know.  It is important to get the right kind of green tea, because much of it has mercury in it.  I can't remember why there is so much mercury in an otherwise healthy tea, but it's worth your attention.  I didn't look at too much more at the articles about green tea after that, though, because I'm allergic to real tea.  Dr. Mercola says that matcha green tea is best.

I have heard that green tea contains more fluoride than black tea which is not good for dysfunctional thyroids (even though it is a small amount).  They say that the best green tea to drink is quality Japanese green tea

I posted a comment, but it's gone!  Matcha tea is just one of many teas.  The word cha means tea in Chinese and Japanese, so you'll see that at the end of all their teas.  Two good companies are Haiku and Choice, both macrobiotic quality organic tea companies.
