could this be fluid or mucus?
I recently had open heart surgery. And now I am feeling congested,I am coughing clear mucus. Could this be fluid  or mucus on my lungs? And is this normal? Or should I be concerned/
                                                                                Thank you

Hi,
Cough and sputum are signs of either common cold or lower respiratory tract infections. In either case, as you have undergone major surgery it is important to get a chest x-ray and examination by your doctor for confirmation of the cause for this.
In certain cases, as patient’s are mostly in lying position, chances are high to get fluid accumulation or infection. If it common cold, symptomatic treatment would be enough. If the infection is into the lungs, then antibiotics, physiotherapy and other supportive treatment as needed should be given. Hope this helps. Best.
