Hi,

Lack of appetite is common in CHF patients and can be a side effect of heart medications. Adaption to the medication could still improve her appetite.

Often, patients are caught in a vicious circle. No appetite > eating too little > no energy > no appetite.

Tips that might help her:
Saving energy is important.
It’s hard work for the heart to digest large meals. Try eating smaller portions more frequently, and have a rest period after eating.

Rest and sleep are very important. After any period of activity, it is important to allow the heart to rest and catch up with the body’s demands. Also, by resting you allow the heart to mobilize fluid faster and get it out of your system.

Good ways to boost energy are:
-Refrain from regular exercise.
-Share your feelings and concerns with friends and caregivers.
-Engage in activities that you enjoy

Hope this helps a little.

Hi
For lack of appetite my tip is eat small servings of food on a small plate spread out during the day. Ever since having severe CHF I have been eating this way.
