Transfer of umbilical cord stem cell from US to India

We are in New Jersey and expecting our first child in Jan 2014.

We were thinking of umbilical cord stem cell storage, but it's too expensive in US (Private Bank), around $3000 one time fee and recurring $300 annually.

So we were thinking of transferring the cord blood to India and store it there for life.

Wanted to know if this is possible? Has anyone done it before? pros-cons of storing it in India vs. US

We are just thinking in financial terms, as it would make economic sense to store it in India than to store it here in US and spend a fortune.

Any thoughts?

For your next child, there are some banks in the US that are much more affordable than the one you went with; such as Americord Registry which offers cord blood storage for $1999 with 20 years of storage included in that fee

you could store it in india, but the fees it would cost to transport it to and from india would probably cancel out the difference in storage fees. for future reference, i found this comparison page of all the major US cord blood banking companies, you should check it out if you need any more information. http://cordadvantage.com/product-comparison
