Low Gum sweeling and pain

I Woke up today with a swellen section on my bottom left gum towards the back. It hurts when pushed on and swells out to the point where its pretty noticable. I have had this once before probly late last year or so. Give or take. Can anyone tell me what this is and what to do? its lower than my teeth are and its embaressing because the side of my cheek sticks out now. I dont brush my teeth much really and i know thats bad but yeah. Is it related to that at all? Can someone help?

the answer to your other questions is "no". anti inflammatories and brushing do nothing for an infection.

what you can do is this: when the swelling gets bad, and/or you develop a fever because the infection has moved to your bloodstream, be sure to have the phone # of a reliable taxi cab company handy so you can get a ride to the hospital.

Well like tons of others i hate going to the dentist. Is there anything i can do at home? cause in all honesty i know i SHOULD go to the dentis but im not going to. I know its the wrong thing to do but is there any way )besides brushing which i am obviously going to start doing WAY more often) that i can bring the swelling back down? like maybe ibeuprofen or some other anti-inflamatory? It went away once before, so how do i help it go away again? Thank you

periodontal disease (gum disease) comes from poor hygiene and hereditary factors sometimes. when plaque builds up around the teeth and is not removed, the bacteria in the plaque start to eat away at the bone. this can make teeth loose (and cause the need for them to be extracted), cause gum abcesses (which may be what you have) and cause other problems. OR, you may have an abcessed tooth. Either way, you need to be seen by a dentist. You should have a full set of films and a complete exam. If it goes away on its own, it is becasue yor body is fighting it, not because the cause of the problem is gone....don't wait

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
It is very difficult to diagnosis this from this forum but i would suggest that any swelling that is present be investigated by a professional.
