Orthodontic Question

by higgy, Aug 19, 2006 12:00AM
I have posted before on this board, and with good news can report that I'm done with all dental work minus crowns...which I've been advised to not get until after we do orthodontic treatment.  My question is...I've made a couple of consultations here, one of which is for an option called "Fast Braces", I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with them.  It is general dentists that do these, not necessarily orthondists and they are suppposedly much faster than traditional.

I do not have any experience or knowledge of this type of ortho treatment so I can not comment on it.I would suggest you do a great deal of research before you undertake any treatment. For some reason the term Fast braces bothers me.

it would depend on many things such as age, positioning of teeth, short roots, and you would need to discuss this with your orthodontist. i suggest for braces go to an orthodontist. there are dentists that want to try things out of their "specialty" and myself would rather go to someone that does this everyday and has years of experience.

as a dentist, i agree with sailor's wife, unless the orthodontic case is mild and there are no or maybe very few missing teeth. Not everyone is a candidate for "fast braces" which to me sounds like a generic term for something like INVISALIGN, which in essence is a series of clear hard acrylic forms that go over your teeth and slowly move them into a more esthetic position. Again, In my opinion, this technique is for mild cases where the problem is a few slightly twisted or out of position teeth. I'd see an orthodontist if I were you--- some orthodontists do Invisalign when indicated so in that case you'd get an honest opinion-- not one clouded by $$$$$.

These are metal...I'm not a candidate for the Invisalign...my problem focuses on two teeth (I do have a slight gap between 8 and 9, but that's no big deal)...#6 is exactly backwards...it's going to be extracted and replanted...#24 is rotated appx 70-75 degrees...but my general dentist is unsure of whether it needs to be extracted because of no room for it....but I have scheduled a consultation with 2 different regular orthodontics as well.
