picking the right shrink

I know that i have been depressed for years, but been able to keep it under wraps.  I can't seem to do that anymore.  I can't stand to go outside, rather be in my nightgown and playing on the computer.  I do have fibro also.  I miss soooooo much work.  I work in mental health.  I think of death on a daily basis now, but then think of my kids and husband.  I'm so unhappy.  My question is how do you pick a good shrink.  I do know I want an older female.  Not some young kid right out of school.  They haven't developed there style yet.  Thanks in advanced.

Namaste,

I can relate to what you are going through since I suffer many of the same disorders including chronic pain.

I don't know anything about your insurance(if you have any) and if there are restrictions on what doctors you can see.

Finding the proper psychiatrist is a matter of trial and error. Over the past 7 years I have gone trough 5 different psychiatrists until I found my current doctor who is very good. Fortunately for me I receive treatment through the VA and just request a change in doctor if I can establish a rapport with the one I have.

I hope you can find a doctor with whom you can connect.  Good luck!

Michael

I'm another Canadian and have very little knowledge about shrinks in the USA.  However, when I had to look for a new shrink I "went shopping".  Went to quite a few shrinks before finding one I could relate to.  She is an older female.  One thing I noticed is that a lot of shrinks are "crazier" than their patients - that's why I went shopping.  Sometimes other people can recommend a shrink.  It might take awhile but if you find the right one it's worth it.

Maybe some women's organizations can help you too.
