Looking for a self help book on depression

Can anyone recommend a good self-help book on depression and anxiety. I already have a small library of self-help books but nothing realy "clicks". I have had depression and anxiety all my life, seen many doctors, tried almost every anti-depressent out there. Any suggestions would be welcomed. I'm just tired of feeling like there is a black cloud following me everywhere I go.

Namaste,

You can read every self-help book out there and probably never find an answeer that you want. A better quality of life doesn't come from a book.

You need to continue working with your doctors or find new doctors, if your current ones aren't meeting your needs. Only a professional can properly evaluate you and prescribe an appropriate treatment plan.

And, don't expect miracles. It may take years(as in my case) before you seem somewhat "normal".  Even then, you'll have those up and down days that you will have to deal with.

Even today, I struggle with a mild depression and have to be aware of my bipolar and panic attack triggers and avoid situations which are going to cause me anxiety.

Using book to do reseaarch is great(I do the same), but that's not where your answers are going to come from.

Very great book-recommendations (I read all by the author):

Christopher Hansard. They teach about self insight from a body-soul and mind-view. Beating depression is about knowing how to balance in the world today.

There are three books. Of course it is tibetan healing and art of living, but they're great! I need to go read them again, but check out the author's name.

From a different angle? I mean not dead on about depression cause; you probably have that info .... this is what helped me;

I'd look at John Lee's Book called, "Facing the Fire." It's the most dead on book there is about anger and how anger is a very physical emotion and needs physical release. It is however, a really heavy book. But I think it helped me recover from some serious issues. Many people say (and many people could be wrong) that depression is anger turned inward. SO if you can find the anger, you can rid yourself of the anger (or learn to deal with it) and the depression is helped. Worth a try, just ebven to understand what the emotion ANGER even is!

Also, if you come from a duysfunctional family backround (or even if your parets do) there is a book called, "It'll never happen to me," By Claudia Black. My Family was abusive and boozey .. so this book (whihc I was a little scared to read ... which is probably a good sign!) helped me alot as well.

As far as being soothed? Nothing soothes me like The Illuminated Rumi, translated by Coleman Barks. Lovely book.

Hope that helps you sweetheart. Black clouds suck!

Love and healing,
Emily
