Natural Approach to Anxiety/Depression

Here is something interesting for all. I believe the drug companies (I am guilty of working for one) have the market on treating everything with a pill. Not to say that all drugs are bad but I believe the big drug makers lobby against alternative medicines or natural treatment for fear of losing profits.

I did some research on Dr. Abarm Hoffer and Vitamin B3 deficiancy. I came up with this youtube link on B3 treating anxiety, depression and psychotic disorders.Supposedly, Dr. Hoffer was very successful in treating psychotic patients with vitamin B3. I guess this vitamin molecular makeup resembles valium, xanax and other benzos. I currently take a 100 mg B-Complex everyday but I will be getting some B3 soon.

Here is the link if anyone is interested.

Very natural approach to anxiety and depression.Follow this techniques to help the body and mind get into balance. Share your experience to help others.

Build up your timing gradually. If you feel tired or dizzy, stop and resume after one minute.

Anulom Vilom pranayam –
Close your right nostril with thumb and deep breath-in through left nostril
then – close left nostril with two fingers and breath-out through right nostril
then -keeping the left nostril closed  deep breath-in through right nostril
then - close your right nostril with thumb and breath-out through left nostril.
This is one cycle of anulom vilom.
Repeat this cycle for 20 to 30  minutes twice a day.
Children under 15 years – do 5 to 10 minutes twice a day.
You can do this before breakfast/lunch/dinner or before bedtime or in bed.Remember to take deep long breaths into the lungs. You can do this while sitting on floor or chair or lying in bed.

Bhramri Pranayam -Close eyes. Close little flap of ears with thumb, place  index finger on forehead, and rest three fingers on base of nose touching eyes. Breathe in through nose. And now breathe out through nose while humming like a bee.
Repeat this  5 to 21 times.

There is a "flush free" Niacin available. I purchased this flush free with inositol. It is a 400 mg dose that I take twice a day.

the B Complex I take is 100 mg. I went off the xanax last Saturday and have been fine. I was only on a very low dose of .25 mg/day at night but was on it for about 2 months. I didnt experience any withdraw symptoms.

I would first check with your doctor before trying to go off the xanax and onto a supplement.

I hope this helps

your post is important to me. B3 is niacin, yes? No doctor I have seen has a good word for it. 'Waste of noney', said  one of them. Cardiologists are te same when I ask if I should take it (I have one stent placed). I got the usual flush when I took it, a nuisance but bearable. But its defenders talk of a very strong dose in order for it to be effective. I have some of 250mgs but am wary of the hot flushes. Can you please saywhat dose of B3 is included in theB-complex you take? I am very carefulwithmy use of alprazolam (Xanax) for anxiety and would like to get off it altogether but mysymtoms are so strong and the reliee so quick with this drug that it's going to be difficult. A B3 substitute would be a godsend.
