Prozac question

by kgill78, Jul 13, 2009 09:03AM
I was recently put on prozac (20mg) a few days ago.  I have read through the other posts but can't find what I am really looking for since there are so many posts.  My question is how long did it take to work, did it work at all, and did it make you a zombie?

Please take the time to search for a web site for Dr. Ann Tracy Bird PhD who has spent years researching prozac and other depression drugs. I think this will help you find the truth. Good luck, also if you can't find it lat me know and I will look up the site and get back to you

It takes a week.  Works well for me and doesn't make me a zombie or make me emotionless. Good luck with it.

Antidepressants work differently for everybody. Some people can feel relief in a week or two; however, it typically take 4-6 weeks before you feel the full effect of the medication - sometimes it can take longer. I was on 20mg of Prozac for 2 years for depression and panic disorder. It worked pretty well. I had side-effects (headache, increased nervousness, stomach aches, some trouble sleeping) for the first week or so, but these went away completely. I did not feel like a zombie at all. Give the medication time to work. It can take a while for some people. It started working for me after about 3-4 weeks.

Best of luck...

to chickamin:  I couldn't find anything about a dr byrd and depression so I might need you to link me up with that one.

The prozac is starting to work I think.  Though I definitely have a hard time getting to sleep even with the klonopin.  I'm trying to save that up for my inlaw visit anyway.  I really want the prozac to work and not make me a zombie too.  I will stick with it though.
