It would depend on how deep you incised, and how you usually cut prior, as well as the placement. Was it on top of your arm?
Sure if you are used to the habit, and your mind is desensitized to everything, your body still is not, and will still go in shock from deeper incisions even if you have trained your mind not to. It could have been a complete emotional reaction, especially if you accidentally cut deeper than usual, or if you were even for a second slightly afraid.
But also, there is nothing healthy about self mutilation. You are damaging your immune system, you are ******* with your brain and sense receptors, you are even making yourself sick, your body is having a terrible time of trying to heal, when your mind is sick with trauma, your body reacts similar.
The dangers is, if you cut really deep, you are basically ******* with death. Those symptoms you describe are exactly what you feel before you die of too much blood loss.
did you lose a lot of blood? if not, your body might only be used to "superficial" cutting. when you go deeper, you are cutting different blood vessels and pain / sensation receptors. your body probably responded by going into a mini shock. how deep if the wound? you might need stitches and a tetanus shot. be sure to watch out for any signs of infection. are you in therapy at the moment? for a lot of people, cutting is a quick and effective way to relieve built up emotional pain. a lot of people who cut also say that it makes them feel alive - thus they are probably suffering from some depersonalization or unreality that is common in severe depression and anxiety. instead of cutting, have you tried the rubber band trick? wear a rubber band around your wrist, and when you feel like cutting, snap the rubber band. it will hurt, but not scar you. just leave some nasty welts. i hope you consider getting treatment for the root of your cutting behavior.
all the best..
