wellbutrin and lexapro

Hi all. I've suffered from anxiety and mild depression my whole life. Finally I went to a doctor, and he prescribed me 5 mg of Lexapro. Right away, I felt better. Less angry, less anxious, and just more positive thoughts about life altogether. However, after a few months, I had lost my sex drive completely. I'm 26, and I don't think I'm ready for that yet. And I was falling asleep at the wheel and any time I sat down longer than 5 minutes. So my doctor supplemented me with 100 mg of wellbutrin. Well, so far I really like the wellbutrin. It gives a boost of energy in the morning, and I feel my sex drive coming back. However, I feel like it's a little ridiculous for me to be taking one drug to counteract another. Anyone else experience this?

It's commonplace to add a medication in order to counteract the side effects of another medication.

Although this is not the best solution, for the moment, that is the only alternative to physicians.

Consider yourself lucky that you are only taking two medications, where, in many cases people are required to take 6 or 7 to receive required results, many of which cause bothersome side effects.

Thanks for the reply. From what I'm reading on here too, it does not sound like my doses for lexapro and wellbutrin are very high either.

no im on 10mg of lexapro and 300mg of wellbutrin xl. its the best combination that worked for me. and thats what its all about finding the best combination that works for you. it took me over a year to find that combination that worked for me.

Thank you. I was on the Lexapro first...do you know how long it is before the Wellbutrin relieves the side effects of the SSRI?

I take 10 mg of lexapro and might get bumped up to 20, but so far it's doing well.  I don't have any side effects that I can think of other than maybe my ability to orgasm is lower.  But, sex drive itself is still ok.  :-)
