Dr. do you know of any reasons why fordyce's spots would start spreading in an otherwise healthy 25 year old? I always had them at the base of my shaft and scrotum but recently they've been spreading upward, it's to the point where i would feel self conscious about their presence in front of a woman. Do you know what would cause their spread? Thanks. -S
Hello,
Fordyce spots are small, painless, raised, pale or white spots or bumps 1 to 3 mm in diameter that may appear on the shaft of the penis. The spots are a form of ectopic sebaceous gland, and are not known to be associated with any disease or illness and are of cosmetic concern only. They are non-infectious and a natural occurrence on the body.
Treatment of Fordyce spots includes CO2 laser or electro desiccation, TCA chemical peels(temporary treatment),diathermy or laser vaporization.
Pls discuss these options with your dermatologist before using them.
Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional queries.Warm regards.
