Red dot on my 3 y.o. sons nose profusely bleeds.

My son is a month away from turning 4. Although he seems to be his usual vivacious, & energetic self, I noticed a small red dot appear on his right cheek right under his eye. Over the past 3 weeks it just seems to be getting slightly larger in size. About 1 week ago he rubbed his cheek & all of a sudden he was bleeding profusely out of the small dot. It took us literally took us hours to stop the bleeding. His pediatrician isn't really giving us any answers & I am growing even more concerned because he is small & almost everyday we have to tape gauze to his face to keep the bleeding under control. Please Help Explain?!

Hello,
For these symptoms, any hemangioma, cherry angioma, pyogenic granuloma should be ruled out. Pyogenic granuloma is a benign growth that often appears as a rapidly growing, bleeding bump on the skin and is composed of blood vessels. Cherry angiomas are made up of clusters of tiny capillaries at the surface of the skin, forming a small round dome ("papule"), which may be flat topped.

While this may turn out to be a small hemangioma, a vascular malformation or a pyogenic granuloma, a couple of investigations to rule out bleeding disorders is essential.
