pimple?

last night i was lying in bed when i realized that an area closest to the scrotum was sore. i felt it and it was a lump, i thought maybe a pimple.  of course all these thoughts rushed to my head thinking that i got a std or something. i dont think its any form of std because i have been with my boyfriend for 7 months now and i never had a problem. i am very worried though.  the lump is just red and is not oozing and is not white or anything but at the same time, it is sore at times.  im not sure on what i should do, whether i should just watch it for a couple of days or see a doctor. do you know what this may be?

Hello,

I cannot confirm anything without examination, but it sounds like a boil. A boil, also referred to as a skin abscess, is a localized infection deep in the skin. A boil generally starts as a reddened, tender area. Over time, the area becomes firm and hard. Eventually, the center of the abscess softens and becomes filled with pus.

Pls keep the area clean and apply some topical antiseptics. Also wear loose-fitting cotton clothing and use an antibacterial soap or mild soap like dove.Avoid any kind of cosmetics. Topical antibiotics such as mupirocin or neomycin containing ointment are also useful. In case the symptoms persist then oral antibiotics may be needed. If the symptoms worsen then excision and drainage may be needed. Also then herpes has to be ruled out.Pls consult a dermatologist in that case.
Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep us posted on how you are doing.
