stitched incision split open

I had a  small mole biopsied by my derm. I got 4 stitches which I think stayed in too long. It's been about a week since I got my stitches out and half the scar split open and there is literally a hole where the mole once was. It doen't hurt, but it looks gross. I'm concerned that it will be a problem healing since it's a hole and not a scab. What should I do?

I am having thsi same problem right now. It is on an area on my back which he warned me to not have a lot of movement, like playing golf or something. But like you said, its an open hole but the rest of the stitch is like a fine line. What did you do to resolve this? Is it just going to be a larger scar?

It just split open one day while i was working. I didn't feel it. I just saw it when I got home. It's a hole now. I wasn't given an antibiotics, i just had stitches taken out. They told me to use mederma which I have been, but I don't want to use it on an opening. I dont' have any follow up...my follow up was to just get the stitches taken out and I don't want to pay to go back if there isn't a real problem.Should I be keeping the wound covered with a bandaid or will it heal faster if I let it get some air?

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi,

Can you elaborate on how it opened?  If  you are taking the prescribed antibiotic and there is no pain or discharge , there is nothing to be worried about. It is important to keep the area clean and dry. However, it is also recommended that you return for your follow-up appointment for proper evaluation.

Take care and keep us posted.
