his numbers are all over the place from 80-180
he is in extreme pain with his foot now, the pain meds are barely helping. they told him to stay laying down, i worry that he cannot get excersize now that he is in so much pain. the pain is intolerable bor at least a half hour in the morning, noon and afternoon but subsides. he has never had to deal with such pain in his life. i worry. they may have to amputate the rest of his toes. they dont know why the pain is so extreme. i dont know either. they gave him a numbing gel thAT should help.
he lost his toes...his pain is increasing, but subsides after a while. pain meds are barely cutting it. his numbers are up at 200 again but seem to be slowly dropping. he had a small superbowl party and seemed fine when i saw him, so that made me feel good.
we go back the foot doc tomorrow to get the bandage removed and pray that the infectious tissue has left. they said after the debridement and amputation of the toes there was a spot deep in the foot that was the central location of the infection and it was still infected but they zapped it with a current. they said it should stop the spreading as long as he takes more antibiotics. we will find out tomorrow. thanks for reading.
after a strict diet of veggies, his BG returned to the 80s. i am hopeful. he will lose his toes though soon, but no spreading.
Hi,
Your dad should be under close observation and stay in very close contact with his physicians during this time. Good blood sugar control is VERY important in getting his foot to heal, and also prevent further damage. During periods of high stress or infection, glucoses can increase higher than usual, so this may be part of the reason for the recent surge. Nausea and vomiting should be reported to your doctors right away beause it may be a sign that glucoses are worsening, or an infection is brewing, or other worrisome factors like heart or kdney conditions.
Typically treatment of gangrene involves treating blood sugars, getting blood flow back to the affected areas, sometimes high concentration oxygen and possibly amputation if the tissue has been very damaged.
This is a very critical time, so keep an close eye on your father. If any doubts arise, or he is feeling unwell, I urge you to contact the nearest medical personnel to have him examined. You cannot be too careful.
Take care.
he also has vision problems and has been vomiting/nausiated. is it because it has been untreated for 10 years? he said he has been getting it under control. it went from 300 i think, down to 140 today.
