Dear Beth,
the elevated alkaline phosphatase can indicate either a liver or a bone problem. In liver conditions, one usually sees a concurrent elevation of the GGT. Ask your doctor to order the GGT as thie value will direct subsequent testing.
If your problem is in the liver, there are several possible explanations. Fatty liver, associated with diabetes mellitus, can cause asymptomatic elevation of the liver tests. Obstruction of the bile ducts must also be considered. The best first step is an ultrasound of liver, gall bladder, bile ducts and pancreas. This test will often provide information regarding diagnosis
I would like to know what is "Mangioma" and frakoi finding is not homogenic {in the liver from the right}?

I was recently diagnosed with PBC, Stage II.
I would like to know what each stages symptoms are and how many years most PBCers live before a liver transplant is to be considered.
In reference to red blood cell sizes what conditions does an elevated MCV and MCH indicate. What do the abbreviations MCH and MCV mean? What numbers indicated an elevation?
Hello;
I have elevated alkaline phosphatase levels also. I
have had a follow up blood test, and it showed that it
is bone related. What would/could this indicate?
Thank You;

The Doctor at the Hospital tells me I have a high Alkaline Phos and SST (SGOT) Also am very Anemic. What can cuse this problem?

Over the past few months my 12 year old daughter has had several episodes of severe abdominal pain and vomiting. The pain is mid, upper abdominal. She associates the episodes with eating fatty foods. She had an abdominal ultrasound done that appears to be negaive (per office staff, will meet with Dr in two days). I'm concerned though because her alkaline phosphatase level is high (185), also GGT and platelet count are high---I just glanced at the labwork so don't have everything---the alk phos and GGT were the most noteworthy elevations. Any ideas??
My alk phosphatase level is a very high 266, my SGOT is 38 which is also elevated. I'm anemic. I've had gastric bypass. Could this be the reason my ALK level is really up there?
I recently had a test on GGT it was 14 the normal ranged is 15-73 what does this mean for me?
My grandaughter (3 yrs old) has had 3 tests showing a very high level of alkaline phosphate - what does this mean , what is the cause and how is it treated

My husband took our 11 yr old son to E.R. this morning w/ severe abdominal pain, and nausea. Thought he might have appendicitis. It turned out not to be that. Dr.'s told my husband that he probably passed a kidney stone. They did blood and urine analyis....but it is greek to me. Some numbers were off, I will list them and perhaps someone can tell me what the test is and what results could mean. It was advised to get another urine in 1-2 weeks and blookwork in 3 months. They also found blood in the urine. Im a bit concerned...and would like some clarity on what this tests are and mean. A better generalization. Thanks.

I am 24 year old male.
I have a back pain for last two years now. I went to doctor and they did blood test. My alkaline phosphate is high, its 460 U/l
I am having a contineous back pain problem, Is this because of this alkaline phosphate?
I am very much worried, I am a non alcohalic. Is it still possible that I can have liver problem????
What should I do to have some relief from my back pain or to reduce the level of alkaline Phosphate??
And Why this alkaline phosphate level is high in blood test?
I will really appreciate if you could answers the above questions.
Thanks
I am interested in knowing if this problem can be due to a blood clot at a previous time? My father has just discovered he has a high level of alkaline phosphate.
My daughter has been diagnosed with Familial mediterranean fever. She has a positive rhuematoid factor. In addition to her usual symptoms of fever,joint,stomach,and chest pain,she is now having severe muscle spasms. She has been on colchicine for 6 months. She is 8 and 65 pounds. Recently, we had her blood work done and her phosphate was high. She also has had two urine tests in th past two months the first had protein and the second was fine. Could you please tell me why her phosphate would be high? I would appreciate any information you have . Thank-you.
