I've had my dog for 18 months and she has 'never' urinated in the house.  During both visits to my Dad, both in his home and in his new apartment, she has done it...and right in front of us...several times.  Her walking/eating schedule has been the same, in fact, twice, we had just come from outside.

Before we return to see Dad this weekend, I'd really appreciate some ideas as to 'why' and possible preventative solutions...before Dad forebids us to visit:-)

Does your dad have (or had) a dog?  Could she be sniffing some other dog's urine and she is marking the territory?

Has she been to your Dad's place before with no trouble?  Is this a new development?  First, you need to rule out a physical problem like a urinary tract infection or kidney problems.  That means a trip to the vet.

Assuming there are no physical problems, she may simply be marking territory that is new to her.  Now that you know marking is an issue for her, you'll have to watch closely when she is in new surroundings.  Use the same techniques as for house training a puppy.  The minute she starts squatting, tell her "No!" and take her outside if necessary.  Also, now that she's marked Dad's house as hers, she may not ever do it again.  Just keep a sharp eye out!
