Where are you located?  If you will post back with your location (state and general location within the state) I will provide you with the name of a wildlife rehabber in your area that you can turn the bird over to.

Hi. Birds are always difficult. We have young starlings every year in our garden, because they lose their mother or get thrown out or fall out of the nests. Usually the mother will stay around and call to it, so it's best not to move it too far from where you found it - unless of course it's a dangerous spot or if the fledgling is injured. The best thing is to put it carefully in an enclosed box, with some soft material (cotton towels are best). Birds tend to go to sleep when it is dark, and certainly calm down much better in the dark. Put a small saucer of water in with it. If mother is around, and the fledgling is not injured, just leave the box open and see if mother comes to get it. It's more often the case that the fledgling may have had an accident during it's first flight.

I think Margot is right though - if in doubt, get the rescue people out. There will be a local bird sanctuary, or animal sanctuary, or even a local vet, that can advise the best course of action.

Let us know what happens - and well done you for stopping to help him. Tony

Ah, poor little thing.
Do you have a wildlife center in your area you can contact? We have a rescue here.
Go to the Forums section and post under the Bird section.

Good luck
