Pee Wee

Pee Wee

My chihuahua was diagnosed having a pinched nerve/slipped disk. He's given Dexazone (steroid pill). It's been 5 weeks and of course I understand its a long recovery. Pee Wee had a xray from neck to tail and showed 2 light spots on his back. His blood test was normal. He hasnt jumped up and down. He favors his back by putting his back legs a little close together. His apetite fluctuates. He eats real good 4 days, then not hungry 1 day, then back to normal. He walks slow, of course,

Pee Wee is a slender chihuahua around 8 pounds and not overweighted. We figured he might of jumped awkward causing this pinched nerve/slipped disk. My question is does it takes a long time to heal?? I was advised to try to use natural vitamins for him, but another say operation??  Please advise.

Do you have access to more specialized testing and care in your area?  Maybe through a university?  You'll need a facility of the caliber seen on Emergency Vets on Animal Planet.  This injury may cause permanent pain - it's hard to tell.  I wouldn't make a decision on surgery without consulting the experts.
