Orange tongue

I've had a cough and a lot of phlem for about 2 weeks.  The couging has subsided, but there's still phelm in my throat. Yesterday I noticed that my tongue was coated in an yellowy/orange color!!  I scraped it, and brushed it, but to no avail.  Is this a common ailment?  Anybody???  Thanks.

Just checking in. I still have it. It comes and goes. Someday's orange and then someday's yellow. ENT thinks it's GERD related. All other doctor's can't figure it out.

Also I want to note: I changed my toothpaste to whitening toothpaste. I'm not sure if this came around the time i was using the orange or whitening toothpaste.

I noticed this started after I got my Orabrush tongue brush. I had been using aquafresh toothpaste (the orange kind) and I was brushing my tongue with it so I thought it was that. I changed toothpastes but I still have it.

I'm healthy, I don't eat much fats, sugars, etc. I get my healthy fats, vitamins, etc (I'm a workout freak). So I don't think my diet would have to do with this.

Things that have changed around the time I noticed this:
1. New tongue brush
2. Started using sinus rinse (netipot)
3. Dentist appt around this time. But it was nothing major, and I don't remember having anything put into my mouth.

No extra vitamins, change in diet, etc. So i'm guessing one of these has contributed to this.

-I do remember dropping my retainer on the floor (outside. yeah gross) but cleaning it before using it. Maybe this?

Hello all

I have been suffering from orange tongue for about 6 months now, some weeks are better than others and I think im getting better but then it will just flare right back up. I think I got it about a month after being very sick with bilateral ear infections/sinus infection/bronchitis.  I was on two different antibiotics to clear it up and a month later i was left with the OT. Like most of you, sugar really gets it going. Also coffee or beer. Ive been to a primary care doc, and an ENT twice now.  At first we thought it was the typical thrush and I tried the clotrimazole troch and that didnt work.  I tried diflucan for 14 days and it got a little better but then came right back.  Ive also tried nystatin, with again, a little relief and then it comes right back.  Im being referred to an oral surgeon but I probably wont go because nobody really knows what this thing is.  Has anyboyd tried oil of oregano??

I started it today.

Also are you guys changing your toothbrushes or toothpaste??  Im thinking about getting disposable ones while I am trying to treat this or boiling the brush before i brush, we could just be recontaminating ourselves since this bug seems to be contagious.

Hi,

I noticed this about 3 weeks ago in me
I had a really bad cold, started coughing up phlem runny nose sore throat, I was sick of coughing during the night so I went to the doctor who gave me antibiotics.
Didn't fix anything so I went to my normal GP he said it was viral and to take a nasel spray called rhinocort aqueous, it cleared it up a little but not much. about 2 - 3 weeks after this I noticed a small patch of my toungue was yellow, i brushed it and it came back again bigger.
I also noticed the back of my tougue was white and a little furry-ish and bumpy, and I mean bumps that I don't remember being there before.
I freaked out brushed it off.
Thought it was oral thrush, spoke to a pharmacist who gave me a gel to put on my tongue. :(
it did nothing! I went back to get more and another pharmacist said Oral thrush is extremely painful you can hardly breathe and adults who get it are usually HIV positive, or have VERY low immune systems, not something that antibiotics would do.
I noticed that it only flares up when I have sugar or a lot of wheaty stuff so I think it may be some sort of mild yeast thing?
My throat though has gotten really sore again and I think I am getting a cold or something because I have terrible headaches and feel achie
I am going to start taking acidophilus and keep hydrated!
I'm seeing my GP on Saturday so I will let you know if he tells me something that will help!

Hi.  My tongue started out white and brown a few months ago.  It turned orange 2 months ago, 24/7's.  I tried Diflucan, yogurt, acidophilus, prescription Magic Mouthwash.  Nothing worked.  My doctor then prescribed Chlorhexidine Gluconate 0.12% oral rinse (tastes like Scope) and within a couple days, my tongue was almost back to normal.  I still use it a few times ago, but my tongue doesn't sting anymore, not nearly as orange, and doesn't taste so sour.  Doctor said anything could cause it...antibiotic use, using whitening toothpaste, having an infection, etc, whatever could disrupt your good yeast in your mouth.
