40 mg of Paxil

Hi Doctor,
How are you? Hope all going well!
7 months ago my primary psych. prescribed 300 mg of Luvox for me (I was bit frustrated in work) and on Jan/09 he switched me on 40 mg of Paxil.  Basically I am on 40 mg Paxil for 3 months right now but 7 months on SSRIs combined.  What would be a safest taper schedule to discountinue this 40 mg of Paxil.
I am reading horrible stories on paxil forums that w/d last for many years after discontinuation and these people are suffering greatly.  I your own exp. are those people who suffer so much are majorities or minorities.
My doc told me just to stop taking it and I will have a bit of discomfort for a week or two, nothing major.  I just don't believe it.

for sure, do not just stop...the long term problems are a distinct minority...you should taper off over a three week period...the first week go down to the lowest daily dose you can; the second week, take that dose, every second day; the third week, every third day; then stop...ask your doctor to cover you with klonopin during the third and fourth week to prevent possibility of seizures.
