retinal tears

I am still experiencing small white flashes following laser surgery 4 days ago to a large retinal tear.  Is this normal or does it mean that the surgery has not been successful?  My vision does not appear to have declined since surgery.  I am due to have a check up in about three weeks time.  Would you advise that I go back to my specialise prior to this?
What advice would you give regarding care following this surgery.  I have been advised not to play sport or engage in any strenuous activity for 3 weeks.  Should my eye be covered and should the use of this eye be limited during this period?

Of course you should call your dr with any concerns.  The laser treatment causes the retinal tissue surrounding the tear to be essentially "spot welded" It takes a longer time period than a few days for the laser "burns" to heal.  When a retina heals from laser treatment, the laser spots cause pigment to clump in the spots and it is this pigment that seals the retina down and prevents the tear from spreading.  That is why your activity should probably not include trampolines!  Be cautious but normal acivity is okay. Again feel free to call your dr and ask.
