slightly swollen eye lid/feeling slight pressure in eye

since yesterday night, i noticed my right eye, upper eyelid to be slightly swollen while feeling slight pressure when i blinked. this morning, it feels about the same as last night, although when i woke up, i felt some itchiness. i wear contacts, but haven't worn them for a couple of weeks, just my glasses. what can it be? also, what can i do at home to maybe alleviate the symptoms? thanks!

could be a bunch of things.  "itch" is the classic symptom of ocular ALLERGY, even if you dont have other allergy symtpoms (sneezing, runny nose, etc).  so 1st, try some over-the-counter oral allergy pills like benadryl, claritin (loratidine), chlorphenirimine, etc.  you might also want to try over-the-counter ocular anti-allergy eyedrops like "visine-A"...but BE CAREFUL, dont use that for more than say 10 days or more than about 4x/day!  a person cannot be on that stuff for very long.  but if the eyedrop gives you relief, that will be diagnostic.  meaning that you probably would be helped by Rx (and non-dangerous to be on long-term) antihistamine eyedrops.

the other cause for lid swelling that is not allergy related would be a contact-lens-related condition called "GPC" or giant papillary conjunctivitis.  it is not a huge deal, but will not be helped by over-the-counter medicines.  would need rx-only meds and probably temporary discontinuation of contact lens wear.

Thank you so much for your response. The swelling and itchiness have subsided on its own. I figure that it was allergies because my nose started to run yesterday. When I woke up this morning, no more swelling and itchiness! Thank you once again! This is a great useful and helpful site!
